We have been cutting oaten chaff from sheaves, for eight years, from crops grown mainly on our own property at Serpentine.
With the cost of production in this traditional, labour intensive method, you may well ask, why produce sheaf hay for chaff?
The answer is simply, because it makes the best chaff!
The hay is not damaged with raking and tangling that occurs with modern techniques, and, importantly, it harbours no dust, which can cause health problems for horses who consume dusty and shattered hay.
Because all of our chaff is steamed in the processing, this improves the quality even further.
Only selected varieties of hay are grown, and a clean (non-contaminated) sample is paramount. We are about quality, not mass production.
We are proud to now include in our range, oaten chaff completely cut from sheaves on the property of Trevor and Julie Sleeman.
Large quantities would need to be pre-ordered.
